Waiting On God

“I’m suffering”

“I don’t think God has a plan for me”

“Why is my situation contrary to the dreams God has given me concerning my life?”

“I have waited for so long, yet God has not given me what I want”

I’m sure most people have wondered why their lives are not going the way it is intended to go (me too). There are 2 answers to this. One could be that the devil is keeping you bound (I won’t expand this and somehow I see those who don’t believe in this rolling their eyes, lol, feel free) and the second is that God is training you! Yes, you read that right. So how do you know the difference? Discernment. How do I discern? The Holy Spirit helps with that.

Sometimes you are like, God gave me promises concerning my life and it looks like it is in no way coming to pass. Hold on, God is still in the picture and He is training you.

Let’s take a look at a few people in the bible. Almost everyone is familiar with the story of Joseph. As a young boy, God gave him dreams of being great. I’m not sure Joseph ever thought it’ll happen in Egypt and even if he knew it was Egypt, definitely not the way it happened. He was sold as a slave and went to jail for a crime he did not commit. He probably would have cursed God, let’s not even go far, he probably would have slept with his master’s wife and felt like a boss and he would not have gone to jail. He didn’t. He remained faithful to God, doing his will, in obedience. At the end, it all worked out for his good.

Now you ask, why did he have to go through all that? It was to train him, to prepare him. In Potiphar’s house, Joseph learnt how to take care of things, how to manage things and he was diligent in doing these things. In the prison, Joseph also took care of his cell mates, he listened to them, and he even used his gift of interpreting dreams. All these helped him to do well in managing the resources of Egypt as the prime minister.

Other examples are; Abraham, who waited for 25 years to get a child, even though God promised he will be father of many nations; David, who was anointed to be king, yet he was on the run for 10 years before he eventually sat on the throne; Caleb, who went to spy on the promise land, he saw it and yet entered 40 years after; Job, who was afflicted not because he sinned but because he was righteous and God wanted the devil to see that his servant is faithful to Him. What all these people had in common in the midst of their trials and wait is that they remained faithful to God, trusted God and walked in obedience. At the end of it all, God came through for them, fulfilled His promises to them and restored whatever it is that was lost

Do not worry, you will come out of that trial you are going through. God is watching you and the bible lets us know that His grace is sufficient for us. He is testing you, to prove you, to know if you will stand with him, come rain, come sunshine. It might seem like the walls are closed up on you, but know one thing, God is watching and He is in control. You need to trust Him and trust the process. At the end, you get to see the reasons God put you through all that and you will eventually appreciate it.

Someone might ask, what of those that don’t get to enjoy these things, maybe because they died and so on. I always asked myself that question and I wondered the fairness in that but I’ve come to realize that with God, it’s not just about you. There is a bigger picture to things that we do not see. The bible says that all things work together for the good of them that love God. We should also keep in mind that God is ever faithful and though we might not get to enjoy the benefits in our lifetime, others can benefit from it (maybe your bloodline) and the best of them all is that you have stored up treasures for yourself in heaven and you will reign with God in heaven.

There’s more to say, but I’ll end here. This is for you that feels like giving up, this is for you that feels like conforming to the world. Always remember God’s promises concerning you, keep trusting God and seeking His word. He is a just God and will come through for you. There’s something I always tell myself. “Don’t worry, God has got you”. So hang on, God has got you.
