When Overwhelmed with Insecurities

When Overwhelmed with insecurities, Odinakachukwu Ndukwe

We sometimes make the statement “I don’t care what people say about me” and the likes but is that true? I myself have said that often and even did a post on it. There’s no doubt that saying such helps and is liberating, it actually did help me. However, the truth is we care about what people say. Let’s admit it. What we actually do is we try as much as possible to not make what people think about us matter or get to us. Humans are in such a way that they need to feel loved or liked. They need validation and not getting that affects them. What we do is we learn how to not depend on external validations to feel good about ourselves or do things we would love to do.

Now let’s talk about insecurities. Everyone is insecure, yes, I said that. Some people are more insecure though and others are just so good at carrying themselves that you would never think they were insecure.

How do we get over these insecurities? I believe one can with words of affirmation and self-development. What do you say when you are overwhelmed with your insecurities, when you have a low self-esteem? If you don’t like something, change it, develop yourself, make it better but make sure you are doing the change for yourself and not because people would love it if you did things in a certain way.

When I feel so insecure about my weight, I keep telling myself that God created me, He made me beautiful and I am beautiful. I am a daughter of God and I shouldn’t feel inferior because of my weight. I also try to be healthy for myself and not because people would like me more and so on. Also, when I feel my low self-esteem creeping in, maybe because I met someone who speaks well, is smart, pretty, handsome, dresses well and so on, I tell myself this; he/she is a child of God, God loves you all and He sent His son to die for you and for them too. Don’t be intimidated, be happy they are doing well, and be glad that God has blessed him/her with such attributes. There’s no need for intimidation or competition, see yourself as someone who carries something, perhaps they have more grace in that area, don’t ever let that make you look down on yourself. After I say these things, I immediately feel so much better, not kidding.

So what do you tell yourself when you feel insecure or overwhelmed with so much low self-esteem?

We should have words we tell ourselves. It could be a quote, a scripture, whatever that helps to make us feel more secure. We don’t just say words of affirmation once and then we are ok. We have got to say it to ourselves continually and over time, we will get better. That’s why you hear something you’ve heard severally and every time it’s said, your spirit is lifted. We need encouragement and if no one can give you that, God can and it can be found in His words.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

1 Peter 5:7

I encourage everyone to see themselves the way God sees them. When we do, it can help us deal with insecurities, low self-esteem and external validations. If you have no idea who you are in God, know this.

You are a child of God.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name

John 1:12

  1. I feel insecure about my weight. And it bothers me that I’m the ugliest of my sisters. But generally, I’m a happy being. Except when I’m alone. Sigh…

I tell myself that I didn’t make myself and I try to be better, live better. It is well

  3. This is beautiful, I do not think we ever have over insecurity.i think as we evolve and continue to discover ourselves and others, these things pop up. It always helps me to focus completely on God when such arise, whether it be regarding work, achievements, personal life or all else.
