Liberty in Christ

Liberty in Christ

Often times, I hear people say they are not ready to give their lives to Christ because it means their lifestyle would change and that would be boring. That’s true, your lifestyle would definitely have to change.

When people are told to give their lives to Christ, they do that out of fear, the fear of going to hell if they don’t change their ways. Sometimes this fear makes them so much bound to obeying the laws of God with their own strength and not grasping the whole concept of God’s love, which is what would draw people to Christ. I began to grow and desire God more when I understood what it is God did for me, what it meant to be a Christian, the love of the Father, the adoption that took place on the cross, the plans He has for His children and the power He has given to His children, and not because I would go to hell if I don’t obey Him. When you see things this way, you know it’s definitely more than not going to hell, it’s something much more, it’s more about fulfilling purpose and claiming your right as a son of God that you are. This lets you understand why you got to have that relationship with God, you understand why some of the “laws” we are to follow are there. You understand your obedience is not by your power, you can’t do anything to earn God’s love, and neither can you work for your righteousness.

Contrary to some beliefs that think being a Christian limits you or keeps you in some kind of bondage where you can no longer do what you wish, there is liberty in knowing God. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 3:17 that where the spirit of God is, there is liberty. This means you knowing God is not some kind of prison or bondage. As a Christians, would you face trials? Yes. Would you be hated? Yes, even Jesus was. Would you have to deny certain pleasures of the flesh? Yes of course, you would have to. Then how is all that liberty?

I love how gotquestions.org put it.

“Some people assume that being a Christian is boring because they’ve heard that Christians have to give up all the “fun” things in life. It’s true that Christians give up some things, but it’s not the fun. Christians give up their sin, their self-destructive behavior, their addictions, their negative attitudes and their ignorance of God. In return, they receive “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). They “live as children of light” in a dark world (Ephesians 5:8). The mistakes of their past no longer have a stronghold in their lives. They no longer live for themselves but for the One who died for them. They serve others and make a difference (Romans 14:7; Philippians 2:4). They are becoming everything that God created them to be. It is virtually impossible to be bored in such a life.”

Liberty in Christ

As I read this, at the end, I just said “there is, Jesus”. BTW, I love poems!

I’ve come to realize that in this life, everyone is searching for something, something more, something deep, something beyond physical things or achievements to make them happy or to have purpose and somehow, some people have concluded it is love. That’s true though. Its love in the purest form we need and truth be told, it’s not in one boy or one girl out there. That’s not what is missing in your life, or what will fill that empty void in you, no it’s not. In all honesty, what we all need is God and He is the purest form of love anyone could ask for or get. I mean, He gave His son for us, for me, for you (John 3:16). Jesus died for us, it’s the purest form of love ever. This is not some cliché talk-about-God stuff, it’s the reality of who God is, the love He has for us and the purpose He wants us to fulfill in our lives.

I pray this is able to touch someone out there. There’s so much God wants you to know. He loves you and the pleasures of this world can fulfill nothing. Accept the sonship that is freely available to you. Knowing God is much more than just avoiding hell.

“For all that is in the world – the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things] – these do not come from the father, but are from the world. The world is passing away, and with it its lusts [the shameful pursuits and ungodly longings]; but the one who does the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever.”

1 John 2: 16-17

  1. Girlfriend, you hit the nail right on the head. Some people will even preach to unbelievers by planting the fear of hell in them instead of showing them the love of the Father. I mean you need to also come to the knowledge of Him before you can share it, that’s probably why.
The Christian life is so not boring because in Christ we can have it all 1cor3:21b but this doesn’t give room to sin.
May God’s grace abound unto us all to experience the depth of His love. 🙏

  2. Loved this. I agree with TOLU . The Christian life ain’t boring. Even the Bible evidently say we are called into freedom but not to sin. It is to live for Christ. Here you go again with s promise dear. Do you remember when I said I would be writing everyday?

I said that because I felt I had the time but with time, I had to adjust it to 3 Articles a week..

Keep this up please. Keep pointing me to God. When I fix my gaze on him, he reminds me of his word when I am tempted to sin.

  3. Word! I think we have a preaching problem In Nigeria. We focus on preaching and telling people to avoid hell instead of preaching a God of grace and love and that is why people focus on works!

The devil lies toomuch. Truth is being Christian is even more fun than being in the world but it doesn’t appear so
